The Baltimore Orioles have experienced a lack of pitching depth to this point in the season, and are going to the prospect well early.

With Grayson Rodriguez still sidelined with the elbow injury and now also experiencing a sore shoulder, as well as Zach Eflin on the bench with a shoulder injury of his own, the Orioles are now having to dig deep for reinforcements. In a report from Jake Rill of MLB.com, Baltimore has announced that their number 19 prospect, right-handed pitcher Brandon Young, has joined the taxi squad today and will be recalled for his Major League debut on Saturday.

Young, 26, went undrafted in the COVID-shortened 2020 MLB draft. He signed with the Orioles after and has quickly made his way through their minor league system, opening the eyes of those in power within the organization along the way.

Tommy John surgery sidelined Young for most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons, limiting him to only 53 1/3 innings in that span. For his career, he has totaled 265 innings in the minors across 67 games (61 starts) with a 3.57 ERA and 313 strikeouts, while carrying a WHIP of 1.23.

Young made three appearances in Spring Training this year. In those outings, the righty posted a 5.68 ERA across 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and a 1.58 WHIP. For the Triple-A Bowie Baysox this year, he carries a 2.76 ERA across three starts with 17 strikeouts and a 0.92 WHIP.

Young will take the mound opposite Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds. Greene has been on fire this year, performing as one of the best pitchers in MLB to this point in the season with his 0.98 ERA and 0.58 WHIP across four starts.

The first pitch for Young’s debut is scheduled for 4:05 PM EST and can be seen on MASN2.
