For the second time in as many days, the Yankees are making a trade. This time they’re getting Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals, in exchange for prospects Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez. The YES Network’s Jack Curry, one of the closest-connected reporters to the Yankees front office, broke the news.
The Yankees have acquired INF Amed Rosario from the Nationals. Rosario, a RHB, has an .816 OPS vs LHP. He’s played 3B, 2B, SS and OF this season. Yanks will deal P Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez, an OF in Dominican Summer Lg. Smart addition

Rosario comes in as the second infielder that New York has acquired recently, right after they traded for Ryan McMahon yesterday. McMahon will take over the black hole that has been third base for them this year, while Rosario will likely play the super-utility role (more capably than Oswald Peraza) covering the entire infield whenever a starter needs a day off or a favorable matchup lines up. He’s been particularly good against left-handed pitchers this year, hitting for an .816 OPS and 126 wRC+ in 93 plate appearances against them, so expect manager Aaron Boone to find spots for him whenever a southpaw is set to start.
This represents a homecoming of sorts for Rosario, who first arrived in the majors as a well-regarded Mets prospect and spent the first three years of his career in Queens. In fact, during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he hit a walk-off homer at Yankee Stadium against the Yanks under extremely strange circumstances. Rosario was sent to Cleveland as part of the Francisco Lindor trade, and after a few productive seasons with the Guardians, he has bounced around to the Dodgers, Rays, Reds, and Nationals. This wasn’t the first time that the Yankees tried to acquire him, either, so the interest has been there for awhile.
On the other side going to Washington, Beeter was a pitching prospect that the Yankees picked up when they traded away Joey Gallo to the Dodgers in 2022, and he’d converted over to a reliever full-time this year to find a role with the major league team. Unfortunately for him, that didn’t end up working out — a right-shoulder injury put him on the IL, and he ultimately made just two ineffective appearances for the team this year. As for Martinez, he’s an 18-year-old outfielder in his second season in pro baseball after signing as an international free agent. He’s taken a step forward this year, hitting for a 1.139 OPS in 18 games in the Dominican Summer League after posting a pedestrian .699 mark in 38 games last season.
