AREA ROUNDUP

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — The Palouse Patriots led by as many as eight runs before pausing their opponents’ attempted comeback in a 13-10 win over the Walla Walla Bruins 17U in an American Legion AA state tournament baseball game on Saturday.

The Patriots advanced to Round 2, where they will encounter Lynden Lightning at 3 p.m. today at the same site.

Walla Walla had the most wins of any team in the tournament and had beaten Palouse earlier in the year.

Willem Denney paced the Patriots (28-13) with a 3-for-3 showing, which included a triple and an RBI and three runs scored. Aslan Burt and Cash McCann laced triples as well, with Burt driving in three runs and McCann scoring two runs.

Emeric Anderson hit a double and racked up three RBI.

When the Bruins scored five times in the top of the seventh, Palouse pitcher Adrian Hecker secured the final two outs of the game to put out the fire.

While the Patriots were happy to make the state tournament, Palouse coach Scott Parrish said that he believes his team can make a deep run.

NAMPA — The Lewis-Clark Twins forced extra innings, but fell just short in state tournament play.

Tucker Green led Lewis-Clark (18-23) with three hits, including a home run and a triple, four RBI and two runs scored.

Hayden Line cranked a three-run home run to force extras in the bottom of the seventh.

Nampa pushed eight runs across in the top of the ninth to take a commanding 15-7 lead. The Twins made a dent as Green’s RBI triple jumpstarted a five-run ninth full of RBI singles and a pair of RBI fielders choices but the Chiefs forced a bases-loaded lineout to secure the win.
