Nebraska and Omaha receive spots in 2025 NCAA softball tournament

HOME THE TITLE. OMAHA SOFTBALL IS NOW ON AN EIGHT GAME WINNING STREAK AFTER SWEEPING UMKC THIS WEEKEND. A BIG REASON FOR THE MAVS SUCCESS. MADDIE AND RYLAN GROFF THE TWINS ARE ENJOYING A HOMECOMING THIS SEASON, MAKING HISTORY IN THE PROCESS AND PROVING THAT GOOD THINGS COME IN PAIRS. IT’S ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL LIKE EXPERIENCES THAT I’VE HAD IN MY LIFE. JUST THERE’S NOTHING QUITE COMPARABLE TO JUST LIKE COMPETING WITH MY SISTER AND LIKE HAVING GONE THROUGH THIS ENTIRE SOFTBALL JOURNEY TOGETHER. MADDIE AND RYLAN GROFF ARE NEVER FAR APART. MADDIE IS MY BEST FRIEND, SO WE’RE ALWAYS HANGING OUT. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME YOU SEE ONE OF THEM, YOU SEE THE OTHER ONE AND THEY’RE BETTER TOGETHER. THERE’S JUST THAT COMFORT FACTOR THERE OF JUST KNOWING THAT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS ON THE FIELD, LIKE I HAVE MY PERSON THERE AND SHE’S GOT MY BACK NO MATTER WHAT, AND VICE VERSA. THE TWINS HAVE WON AT EVERY LEVEL. THEY LED OMAHA MARIAN TO THE CLASS A STATE TITLE IN 2022. SAFE AT HOME. OMAHA MARIAN HAS WON IT AND SPENT ONE SEASON AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, TAKING THE SALUKIS TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT BEFORE TRANSFERRING TO OMAHA. WHEN FOUND OUT THEY WERE IN THE PORTAL. OBVIOUSLY, THAT WAS A THAT WAS A QUICK CALL. THEY ARE BOTH AS HARD A WORKER AS AS YOU’LL YOU’LL FIND. AND THAT THAT OBVIOUSLY IS A KEY INGREDIENT TO LEADING TO THEIR SUCCESS. THEIR HOMECOMING WAS DRIVEN BY THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH HEAD COACH MIKE HERD, WHO HAS KNOWN THE TWINS SINCE THEY WERE EIGHT YEARS OLD AND COACHED WITH THE GROFF’S PARENTS AT OMAHA. MARIAN. WE HAVE SO MUCH TRUST IN THE COACHES HERE AT OMAHA AND JUST WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WITH THE PROGRAM AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THE PROGRAM. IT’S REALLY CRAZY TO REFLECT ON. IT’S JUST SUCH A FULL CIRCLE MOMENT WITH MADDIE ON THE MOUND AND RYLAN BEHIND THE PLATE. THEY’VE BEEN A PART OF THREE PERFECT GAMES, INCLUDING MADDIE’S FIRST EVER COLLEGIATE START AND BACK TO BACK PERFECT BIDS THIS SEASON AGAINST NORTH DAKOTA. PERFECTION. FOR THE SECOND DAY IN A ROW, THE GROFFS WERE RECOGNIZED AS THE SUMMIT LEAGUE PITCHER AND PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK, BECOMING THE FIRST EVER SET OF TWINS HONORED IN THE SAME SPORT. IN THE SAME WEEK. IT WAS A GOOD WEEKEND. ANYTIME YOU CAN GET A WIN IS GOOD. SO WE’RE JUST TRYING TO PICK UP MOMENTUM AS WE KEEP GOING INTO CONFERENCE AND KEEP IT ROLLING, AND THEY’LL PUT THEIR CHEMISTRY TO THE TEST TO TRY TO LEAD THE MAVS TO THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE NCAA TOURNAMENT. The state of Nebraska is well represented in the 64-team field for the NCAA softball tournament.The Huskers received the No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge, La., regional. Nebraska will face UConn in the opening game. The other two teams in the regional are LSU and Southeast Louisiana.NU is making the program’s 28th tournament appearance and first since 2023. The Huskers have eight Women’s College World Series appearances. The Mavs have the No. 3 seed in the Norman, Okla., regional and will play California. The other two teams in the regional are No. 2 Oklahoma and Boston.It’s the program’s third consecutive appearance in the Division I tournament. UNO won the Division II National Championship in 2001.Regional play will be held May 16-18.
