Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber was expected to make a rehab appearance for the Columbus Clippers July 27 at Huntington Park.

Bieber and the Clippers were scheduled to play at 12:05 p.m., the resumption of a July 26 game against the Buffalo Bisons that was suspended in the bottom of the third inning due to weather. However, storms again rolled through the area, and Bieber’s trip to the mound, as well as a seven-inning game set to follow, were canceled.

Bieber has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery. On July 22, he threw 43 pitches (30 strikes) for the Guardians’ High-A affiliate, the Lake County Captains. He struck out four and allowed one earned run in his three innings.

Barring a setback, the 2020 Cy Young Award Winner is looking at a return to the majors in August, after the MLB trade deadline.

“More than anything, we want to make sure we’re building him up to the point when he’s ready to rejoin the major league rotation, he’s capable of handling the workload of a starting pitcher,” Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti told the Akron Beacon Journal.

As for fans who bought Clippers tickets to either the July 26 or July 27 game, they can exchange those for any future home regular-season contest.
