Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras (finger) is starting behind the plate and is batting third in Monday’s divisional showdown against the visiting Chicago Cubs and left-hander Matthew Boyd. However, Contreras is dealing with a finger injury, and the Brewers have said that if he were to land on the injured list, it would be for season-ending surgery. Uh oh. That’s not what fantasy managers want to hear, and it’s why the Brewers acquired catcher Danny Jansen from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. A serious finger injury could help explain why the 27-year-old Venezuelan backstop has been such a disappointment in 2025. Through 368 at-bats, Contreras is slashing .242/.342/.340 with a below-average .682 OPS, six homers, 42 RBI, 50 runs and five steals. He hasn’t gone deep since June 14.–Keith Hernandez
