CLEVELAND — The second round of the MLB Playoffs begins on Saturday, with the Detroit Tigers looking to continue their Cinderella run when they begin their American League Divisional Series against the Cleveland Guardians.

After the Tigers’ incredible run near the end of the regular season, they came into their Wild Card series against the Houston Astros with a lot of momentum. They rode that wave to snag a 3-1 win in the series opener on Tuesday. Then, after falling behind late in Game 2 on Wednesday, a big bases-clearing hit from Andy Ibanez put Detroit out in front, clinching the series with a 5-2 victory.

The Bengals’ last playoff appearance in 2014 saw them get knocked out by the Baltimore Orioles in the divisional round. They are trying to make it to the ALCS for the first time in 11 years.

They meet a familiar foe in the Guardians, who are coming off their second AL Central title in three years. After missing out on the playoffs last season, Cleveland managed to post the second-best record in the AL, finishing 1.5 games back of the New York Yankees. The Guardians made it as far as the LDS in 2022, as they were eliminated by the Yankees in five games.

Even though the Tigers and Guardians have been divisional rivals forever, this will be the first time they have ever met in the playoffs.

The Guardians clinched the regular-season series against the Tigers, winning seven of the 13 meetings.
