MILWAUKEE — The legend of Andrew Vaughn grew further Tuesday night. He hit a grand slam to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers blew out the Chicago Cubs, 9-3, to secure a series win.

Vaughn was a near-perfect 3-4 at the plate and tallied 6 total RBIs.

There wasn’t much to separate the two teams early in Tuesday’s contest, but the Brewers got a foothold in the fifth inning. Jackson Chourio hit a leadoff triple (he was lifted from the game afterwards due to a hamstring spasm), then William Contreras followed with an RBI double.

The Brewers caught a break later in the fifth when Pete Crow-Armstrong dropped a routine fly ball in center field. That extended the inning and allowed the Brewers to get more runs home.

Of course, Vaughn’s grand slam defined the latter portion of the game but credit also must be given to Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby. He tossed 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one earned run to pick up the save.

Tuesday’s win gives the Brewers a chance to sweep the series Wednesday. It also gives the Crew a two-game lead at the top of the National League Central and maintains their hold on the best record in Major League Baseball.

Wednesday’s game is set for 2:10 p.m. CT at American Family Field. Freddy Peralta is set to start for the Brewers against Shota Imanaga.
