1. Dennis Krause Blog: Cubs avoid sweep, Brewers lead division

Wednesday afternoon may have been the most important game of the season for the Chicago Cubs. Instead of leaving Milwaukee three games behind the Brewers in the National League Central Division, the Cubs are one game back after Wednesday’s 10-3 victory at American Family Field. 

2. MKE 2024 Host Committee donates $5 million to 80+ local nonprofits

Nearly a year after the Republican party’s presidential nominating convention in Wisconsin, the MKE 2024 Host Committee said it made more than $5 million in charitable donations. That money has gone to Milwaukee nonprofit organizations.

3. President Trump signs Rep. Van Orden’s VA Loan Program Reform Act

President Donald Trump signed the VA Loan Program Reform Act, sponsored by Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., on Wednesday. The new legislation will create a permanent partial claims program within the VA Home Loan Program.

4. U.S. economy bounds back, expanding 3% in second quarter, but headline growth number masks weaknesses

The U.S. economy expanded at a surprising 3% annual pace from April through June, bouncing back at least temporarily from a first-quarter drop that reflected disruptions from President Donald Trump’s trade wars.

5. Tsunami waves reach Japan, Hawaii and California after 8.8 magnitude quake off Russia’s Far East 

One of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck off Russia’s sparsely populated Far East early Wednesday, sending tsunami waves into Japan, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. Several people were injured, but none gravely, and no major damage has been reported so far.
