Here’s what to follow for the Astros ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline

  • July 31, 2025

HOUSTON – The Houston Astros are serious buyers at the MLB Trade Deadline with General Manager Dana Brown telling SportsTalk 790 Wednesday that he’s searching first and foremost for “impact.”

The Astros, who have 16 players on the injured list—a number that was as high as 18 recently—are searching for a bat to help a depleted lineup.

The preference would be a for a left-handed bat, but the Astros are searching to add punch to their lineup regardless of handedness.

They are anticipated to miss third baseman Isaac Paredes for an extended period of time with what the team is calling a “severe” hamstring injury.

A league source told KPRC 2 Paredes is expected to miss at least two months, as he’s searching for a second opinion and hoping to avoid surgery on his hamstring injury.

One name that has popped up in multiple reports is former Astros’ star shortstop Carlos Correa, who would play third base for Houston. A league source tells KPRC 2 that the Minnesota Twins’ price for a Correa trade is high, and a deal getting done is unlikely.

An impact pitcher the Astros are interested in is San Diego Padres’ right-hander Dylan Cease, according to multiple MLB sources. The Athletic first reported Houston’s interest in Cease.

Rookie outfielder Jacob Melton is anticipated to be part of outgoing trade packages, according to multiple MLB sources.
