MILWAUKEE — Wednesday afternoon may have been the most important game of the season for the Chicago Cubs.
Instead of leaving Milwaukee three games behind the Brewers in the National League Central Division, the Cubs are one game back after Wednesday’s 10-3 victory at American Family Field.
The Brewers took two out of three in the series, but the Cubs avoided the damaging sweep.
There are still two months left in the regular season. The Brewers will not host the Cubs anymore. They have five games left next month in August at Wrigley Field.
Everyone realized there would not be a decisive knockout in late July for the division crown.
Pat Murphy’s news conference after the game and the mood in the Brewers’ clubhouse was the same: the Brewers are hanging in and the upcoming division race will be fun.
Fasten your seat belts.
