If you are a fan of baseball, chances are you are well aware of the 1994 classic film, Angels in the Outfield, centered around the then-California Angels. Well, on Wednesday, Angels broadcasters Wayne Randazzo and Mark Gubicza opened their broadcast for the team’s matchup against the Texas Rangers from the outfield at Angel Stadium alongside the real life “Angels in the Outfield.”

Last month, reporter Erica Weston spoke with a pair of Angels fan on the broadcast who were dressed as actual angels, donning a halo and wings, to discuss the tradition implemented by some fans to dress up as the real thing.

During her interview on June 28, Weston suggested that fans who wanted to participate wear angel outfits to all sit together in one section of the outfield for a game at some point.

Well, that idea finally came to fruition just over a month later on Wednesday, with an entire section of “Angels in the Outfield” sitting in the  right-center field seats for Wednesday’s game.

Just before Wednesday’s game got started, Randazzo and Gubicza made the trek from the booth down to right-center field to sit alongside the “Angels in the Outfield,” discussing how the fanbase may or may not be contributing to the team’s hot stretch of play as of late.

“What a scene this is!” said Randazzo as the costumed fans began to passionately cheer.

“This is unbelievable,” replied Gubicza. “I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. This place is crazy! I feel like we’re in a rock concert right now!”

“Well, the Angels in the Outfield, I feel like they have had a part in what has been happening here lately,” added Randazzo.

“Yeah, you know what, they have made a big impact on how this team has been playing of late since they have started coming to the ballpark,” added Gubicza. “A lot of great comeback wins. I mean, when you think about it, a couple of plays in the outfield against the Texas Rangers where you really can’t explain how this happened. But two wins against Texas. We’ve seen some great ones this year. A lot of comeback victories. When you look at it, the Angels, the fourth best in baseball. The other three teams ahead of them, leading their division.”

Sitting four games out of a wild card spot in the American League, the team certainly needs all they can get from their fanbase. So even if the hundreds of fans dressing as angels can’t identify which players are receiving help from angels, like in the movie, perhaps their loyal support truly is assisting the postseason push in some way.
