Georgetown once again had to survive a tight 7th inning to defeat a team from the Philippines 4-2 to win Pool A at the Senior League Softball World Series.

A day after surviving a tight game with Puerto Rico, Georgetown took a 3-1 lead into the final inning, only to have a sacrifice fly being the Asia-Pacific champions within a run with two outs.

A single followed to put runners on second and third, but a pickoff of the runner on second base ended the game in dramatic fashion.

Delaware’s entire offense came in the 2nd inning, as they scored three runs on the power of two singles and three walks.

Adrianna Heck started the rally with a one-out single to right field, before Taylor Lowe walked.

Following a strikeout, Adeline Lutz hit a grounder that could have ended the inning, but an errant throw allowed a runner to score and put two runners in scoring position.

Karly Kruger followed with an RBI single, and then back-to-back walks led to the third running being allowed to come home.

That was just enough offense for Makenna Blades, who scattered 8 hits while allowing just one earned run in picking up the victory.

Six different Georgetown players had hits in the game.

Georgetown will be the No. 1 Pool A seed, and take on the 4th-place Pool B team at 5 p.m. Friday.

That team will be either Canada or Czechia, who are slated to play their final pool game at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Before that game is played, Czechia needs to complete their game with Michigan at 9 a.m., meaning Delaware could be facing a team that’s already played 1 1/2 games earlier in the day, if they defeat Canada.

The semifinals are set for Saturday, with the Championship game on Sunday.

Admission is free to all games at the Lower Sussex Little League in Roxana, Delaware.
