NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – An 88-year-old man with dementia who was declared missing from a community in Nacogdoches County on Friday has been found dead. The sheriff’s office is working with the Texas Rangers to investigate.
Syndey Alvers, 88, was last seen on Thursday in the Chireno area.
In a release, the sheriff’s office said Alvers walked away from his home in the 4000 block of CR 350 at about 4:30 p.m., and he is known to suffer from dementia.
A search for Alvers began Friday at about 1:30 p.m., and Sheriff Jason Bridges said he was found dead shortly before dark.
Bridges said his body was found half a mile from his home, in a pasture surrounded by tall grass and brush. It was apparent that he had been dead for some time before he was found, the sheriff said.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office is investigating his death in cooperation with the Texas Rangers. Bridges said Alvers’ cause of death is unknown at this time, but an autopsy has been ordered.
