On Sunday, fans of the San Diego Padres got a glimpse into the future of broadcasting when a pair of kid broadcasters did their best impression of Don Orsillo and Mark Grant to introduce the Padres starting lineup for their game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Orsillo and Grant started off the game on the Padres broadcast. But when Fernando Tatis Jr. came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, the kid broadcasters got their time to shine by introducing the batting lineup.

Not only did the pair of kid broadcasters perfectly nail the starting lineup of the Padres. But they also came dressed identically to Orsillo and Grant. Even down to Grant’s lack of hair, as one of the kid broadcasters came prepared with a bald cap.

Shortly before the game kicked off, Orsillo shared his admiration of the impersonation of him on social media, joking that he thought he and his on-air partner had been part of the Padres busy trade deadline after all and had been replaced by the kids.

“Arrived to the booth today thinking we had been traded at the deadline after all,” wrote Orsillo. “Turns out it’s kids day.”

Many Padres fans on social media agreed that the impersonation, at least based on looks, was pretty spot on. Even if the kids may have quite a bit of work to do to achieve the kind of chemistry that Orsillo and Grant have together over their decade-long run together in the Padres broadcast booth.

That kid with the bald cap — and his make-up artist — definitely have a future in movies and TV, if not sportscasting.
