The three were acquired by the Twins in their flurry of pitcher trades last week. First, Abel was part of the return for the trade that shipped out Jhoan Duran to the Philadelphia Phillies. A day later, Outman was swapped for Brock Stewart from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Bradley for Griffin Jax from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Abel said he did not expect to get traded but is excited for the new opportunity in the Twin Cities. The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher has 6 starts, and 25 innings pitched in the majors under his belt. In his Aug. 3 debut with the Saints, Abel allowed just one hit through five innings.

Outman, a center fielder, said he missed the initial phone call informing him of the trade and found out through his wife getting a call from his agent. The next day, he joined the Saints in Toledo, Ohio, and debuted on Aug. 2 in a 10-4 win.

This season with the Dodgers, Outman was batting .103 and had 2 home runs in 39 plate appearances. At 28-years-old, he’s spent time between the Dodgers’ triple-A affiliate and the majors the last couple of years. His best season came in 2023, batting .248 with 23 home runs through 151 games. He finished 3rd in National League Rookie of the Year voting.

Bradley, who has not pitched yet for the Saints, called the trade a bittersweet moment. He was drafted in 2018 by Tampa Bay and said he “grew up with the Rays,” but sees opportunity in a new start with the Twins organization. He had a 4.61 ERA with 6 wins and 6 losses this year with the Rays. He’s set to make his Saints debut Wednesday.

The Twins are 2-3 since the trade deadline and sit at a 53-60 record.
