Beaumont, Texas – The Beaumont Baseball Franchise of the Mid-America League is thrilled
to announce the five finalists in its highly anticipated “Name the Team” contest. After receiving
hundreds of creative submissions from fans across Southeast Texas and beyond, the team has
narrowed the field to five bold and uniquely Beaumont identities:
Beaumont Bay Hounds – Celebrating Southeast Texas’s ties to the water and the loyal,
tenacious spirit of man’s best friend, this name suggests fearless energy along the Gulf
Coast.
Beaumont Bayou Cats – A slick, street-smart nod to the wild spirit of Southeast Texas
swamps and the nocturnal creatures that prowl them.
Beaumont Black Gold – A bold, timeless reference to the oil beneath our feet that
launched a city and changed the nation.
Beaumont Mudbugs – Crawfish with attitude. A Cajun-fueled celebration of flavor,
flair, and fan-favorite feasts.
Beaumont Oil Barons – Rich in swagger and tradition, this name conjures the larger-than-life personalities that defined an era of Texas oil wealth.
“We were blown away by the passion and creativity our community brought to this process.”
said Mike Marek, General Manager of the Beaumont Baseball Franchise. “Each of these
finalists tells a piece of the story of who we are — fun, fearless, and proud of our Texas roots.”
The chosen identity will take the field for the franchise’s inaugural season in the Mid-America
League, beginning in May 2026. Fans can vote for their favorite team name now through
August 31 by visiting the team’s official landing page at baseballinbeaumont.com. The
winning name will be unveiled in September, with a full brand reveal—including logo, and
colors.
Launched in 2024, the Mid-America League has quickly become one of the premier summer
baseball leagues in America. The league features top collegiate players alongside post-college
players pursuing professional baseball careers. These athletes include players who were
undrafted, unsigned free agents, or former professionals working to return to affiliated baseball.
The league compensates its players through a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program,
which is closely monitored by the league.
The Mid America League currently consists of franchises in: Joplin, MO; Fort Smith, AR;
Texarkana, TX; White Oak/Longview, TX; Sherman, TX; Abilene, TX. The Beaumont
franchise joins Fort Scott, KS, Bryan, TX, and Nacogdoches, TX as one of four new expansion
teams debuting in 2026. The Mid-America League is committed to growing and strengthening
baseball in the region.
Each team in the league plays a 64-game schedule — 32 home and 32 road games — spanning
from mid-May to mid-August.
