A couple of months ago, the Colorado Rockies were on pace to set a major league baseball record as the absolute worst baseball team ever in a single season, projected to beat last year’s Chicago White Sox with more losses than any other team in history.
It’s a dubious record. The White Sox finished with 121 losses last year, the most ever in MLB history.
At one point, the Rockies were on pace to have 125 losses, which would have earned them that title for probably a long time to come. But good news. Things are looking up!
After a decent July saw the Rockies go 10-16, they are no longer on pace for the 125 losses and the honor of having the worst ever record in MLB history. Now they’re on pace for just 117 losses on the season instead.
That would tie them with the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics for the fourth worst record of all time. Whew. And here I thought it was going to be so much worse! If you detect a little sarcasm there, well, your sarcasm detector is working great!

All jokes aside, yes the Rockies have been awful this year. But you know what? Colorado still turns out. The Rockies have averaged nearly 30,000 in attendance for every home game in 2025, putting them in the top half of the league on a per game basis. Isn’t that crazy?
It goes to show you that baseball in Colorado works. Even sub-par baseball. And gives you a little bit of hope that with the right tweaks to ownership, management, the roster or a combination of all three, things can only get better from here.
