Former LSU baseball star Paul Skenes takes the baseball in his next start for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Pirates begin a three-game set at home against the Reds on Thursday, and Skenes will make the start against fellow right-hander and former first-round pick Brady Singer. His team is on a two-game skid right now after dropping a series to the San Francisco Giants.

The former LSU hurler will look to rebound following one of his worst outings of the season. Skenes surrendered four runs on five hits through five innings to the Colorado Rockies, arguably the league’s worst team, in his last start.
Outside of his last appearance, Skenes had given up three or more runs just three times in 2025. His 2.02 ERA leads the National League and he is tied for first with a 0.92 WHIP. His 154 strikeouts are No. 4 in the National League.
Skenes remains one of baseball’s best pitchers in his second professional season. He made a second-straight start on the mound for the National League in the 2025 All-Star game, one year removed from taking home the league’s rookie of the year award.
