I was hoping to get this done right after looking at the batters, but life, migration and all. This is ust covering games in July.

The Jays went 18-8 in July, with a 4.48 ERA.

Kevin Gausman: 5 starts, 1-1, 2.51 ERA. In 28.2 innings, batters hit .213/.292/.333 with 3 home runs, 12 walks and 32 strikeouts.

Five starts, two quality starts. Three games where he would have had QS but came out before six innings. He didn’t give up more than three earned in any start. He had an excellent month. I enjoy watching him pitch when he’s throwing like this. He had two good starts against the Yankees. The team was 4-1 in his starts.

Eric Lauer: 5 starts, 2-1, 2.79 ERA. In 29.0 innings, batters hit .197/.255/.339 with 2 strikeouts, 3 walks and 30 strikeouts.

Three Quality Starts. The other two would have been if he had thrown six innings. For a guy who we picked up for free, he’s been amazing. If he had Scherzer’s contract, he’d still be amazing. He seems to always be on the edges of the strike zone. I don’t know if Pete Walker is a genius or what, but he’s already set a new career high in bWAR. It is hard to imagine we would be in first place without Eric.

Yariel Rodríguez: 13 games, 0-0, 2 holds, 1 save, 2.13 ERA. In 12.2 innings, batters hit .196/.315/.196, 7 walks and 11 strikeouts.

He’s been terrific. Not a single extra-base hit against. He didn’t get more than 4 outs in any appearance in August. I liked it better when John would use him for two or more innings. He’s been giving out more walk lately.

Braydon Fisher: 3-0, 2 holds, 1 blown save (he got the win), 4.00 ERA. IN 9 innings, batters hit .216/.310/.297 with 3 doubles, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

He gave up runs (two each) in two games. The rest of his appearances, he didn’t allow a run.

José Berríos: 6 starts, 3-1, 5.83 ERA, In 29.1 innings, batters hit .292/.333/.517 with 7 home runs, 7 walks and 22 strikeouts.

Two of the six starts were Quality Starts. He threw 6 innings twice, and 5.2 once. Others were 4.1, 4.1, and 3. It was not a great month for Jose, but the team won 5 of his 6 starts, which is pretty good, and Buck would tell you that winning is the important thing. He gave up at least one home run in each of his starts, and his strikeouts were down. On the season, his strikeout rate is a little up from last year, but his walk rate is up more.

Max Scherez: 4 starts, 1-1, 4.91 ERA. In 22 innings, batters hit .222/.273/.444 with 5 home runs, 5 walks and 27 strikeouts.

2 Quality Starts. Other than the home runs, he’s been good (insert your own Titanic joke here). It seems to be just a bad inning a start that’s caused his issues. He’s thrown 7 and 6 innings in his last two starts. Cold doesn’t seem to be the correct term. He’s getting better each start.

Jeff Hoffman: 10 games, 0-2, 6 saves, 0 blown saves, 4.50 ERA. In 10 innings, batters hit .237/.275/.474 with 2 home runs, 1 walks and 1 strikeouts.

He gave up three earned runs in one outing, in two others, he gave up one earned. The hard part of being a being a closer is that the tolerances are pretty tight. I think the two things on earth with the tightest tolerances are in closing and making fitted bed sheets.

Brendon Little: 12 games, 0-0, 5 holds, 4.50 ERA. In 10 innings, batters hit ..205/.340/.410 with 1 home run, 8 walks and 18 strikeouts.

He’s been a massive surprise to me. Whoever saw something in him deserves a raise. And likely Pete Walker. Baseball Savant says he’s throwing a sinker and a knuckle curve with a very occasional slider, all much the same as last year, but they are working that much better. Cold really isn’t fair, but he wasn’t lights out like he had been.

Chad Green: 11 games, 1-0, 4.35 ERA, 2 holds. Batters hit .366/.422/.512 with 2 double, 4 home runs, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.

And he’s gone. I haven’t heard if any team picked him up.

Justin Bruihl: 9 games, 9.53 ERA, 3 holds, 9.82 ERA. Batters hit .526/.591/.737 with 1 double, 1 home run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

He had a rough time. In the minors now.

Chris Bassitt: 5 starts, 1 relief, 4-1, 4.08 ERA. In 28.2 innings, batters hit .283/.331/.522, 7 home runs, 5 walks and 28 strikeouts.

Three Quality Starts in the five starts. He made it to six innings in three of the five. He’s not walking anybody lately, but giving up some hits and too many home runs. His walk rate is significantly lower than last year, but home runs are up; he’s already given up as many home runs as he did all of last year.

Mason Fluharty: 4 games, 1-0, 0.00 ERA. Batters hit .176/.176/.235 with 1 1 double, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts.

Easton Lucas: 1 start, 2.2 shutout innings, 0-1, 13.50 ERA. 4 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

And he’s back in Buffalo.

Nick Sandlin: 4 games, 3.2 innings, 2.45 ERA. Allowed 4 hits, 1 home run, 0 walk, 3 strikeouts. 2 holds, 1 blown save.

Tommy Nance: 5 games, 6.2 innings, 1.35 ERA, 2 holds, .130/.167/.130

Lázaro Estrada: 2 games, 7.1 innings, 8.59 ERA, 1 blown save, 7.1 innings, batters hit .323/.382/.581 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs.

Pitched 4 innings in one game and 3.1 in the other.

Seranthony Dominguez: 2 games, 2 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 1 hit batter.

Ryan Burr: 2 games, 2 innings, 1-0, 0.00 ERA. Batters hit .143/.250/.143, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

Robinson Piña: 1 game, 1.1 innings, 3 unearned runs, 1 earned, 4 hits, 1 walks and 1 strikeout.

Ali Sánchez: 1 inning, 3 hits, 2 earned, 1 k.

Yimi Garcia: Last I saw, he still hasn’t thrown a ball. They were discussing his return by the end of the month. I’m thinking September.
