(KNSI) – A Stearns County Sheriff’s deputy will join other officers at Sunday’s Minnesota Twins game to be honored as one of the state’s top DWI enforcers in 2024.
Deputy Cole Thoma’s 39 arrests were enough for him to make the 70-man roster who went above and beyond to make the streets safer from impaired driving last year. All of them will be recognized for their efforts during pre-game activities.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety chose the team based on nominations from its agencies. Together, the squad made 5,120 DWI arrests in 2024, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the state’s total of 26,583 impaired driving arrests.
Officials say despite the efforts of these and other officers, impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic deaths in the state.
First pitch for Sunday’s game at Target Field in Minneapolis is at noon.
