The A’s are set for their second game of their weekend series in Baltimore, ready to roll for the middle contest against the Orioles hoping to even the series up one apiece. Last night’s close loss was tough. Time for pay back.
Rookie right-hander Jack Perkins will get the ball for the A’s this afternoon. He’s making his second career start, and he’ll be hoping his second assignment goes better than his first when he allowed four runs in just three innings of work last time out. Before that he’d been having a successful season in Triple-A and posted solid numbers out of the A’s bullpen while getting his feet wet in a relief role.
The A’s lineup tonight looks like this:
Lawrence Butler returns to the lineup and will take the lead off spot from Shea Langeliers, who drops down to the #2 spot. As always the tag team of Nick Kurtz and Brent cooker will occupy the heart of the lineup followed by the hot Tyler Soderstrom. JJ Bleday gets another start against a right-handed pitcher and veteran third baseman Gio Urshela draws the start at the hot corner for the A’s while Luis Urias and Darell Hernaiz will man the middle positions on the diamond.
For the Orioles, they’ll be going with rookie right-hander Brandon Young, who will be making his 10th career start this evening. His first nine appearances for the O’s have not gone well as the club’s 27th-ranked prospect has limped to a 5.88 ERA so far in his young career. He is coming off of a shutout appearance last time out though so the A’s can’t expect a walk in the park tonight.
Baltimore’s starting nine this evening breaks down like this:
