The Guardians continue to chip away at the Tigers AL Central lead. On July 8th, the Guardians were 15 games behind the Tigers, now that lead is down to 5. This team is super fun to watch right now. CJ Kayfus hit his first career home run and has adjusted better than I thought he would to MLB pitching.
Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias continue to be an absolutely electric middle infield combination. They’re also both hitting relatively well, too, despite Arias having one of *those* games tonight.
This pitching staff continues to be rock solid after losing two key members in Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase. Joey Cantillo allowed just one run in 5.2 innings tonight, and the bullpen was flawless, not giving up a single hit.
Everything is clicking for this team right now, playing against the White Sox helps, but they look like a completely different team than they did a month ago. They went from being dead in the water to having a real chance at making the playoffs in just a months time. Credit to the guys in that locker room and especially Steven Vogt for doing this after that brutal 10 game losing streak.
The Guardians will go for the sweep tomorrow, it will be Slade Cecconi vs Davis Martin at 2:10 PM ET.
