After a nifty doubleheader sweep, the Atlanta Braves will look to send the Miami Marlins home with a series loss.
Statcast is generally not as bullish, but it’s not mad, either.
Atlanta sends Joey Wentz to the hill for the finale. Wentz, returning to his original organization, has made five appearances since coming back to Atlanta. Four have been starts, and the overall performance has been really good. His strikeout rate is a little north of 9 per 9 innings and the walk rate is below 3. The 3.09 ERA is good and, somehow because I feel like I never get to say it, indicative of his performance.
Wentz is fastball-heavy, throwing his 4-seamer and cutter about 80% of the time before adding in a curveball.
On the other side, Cal Quantrill is on the mound. He’s been … less successful than Wentz. His ERA sits at 5.21, and while that’s a bit high by some metrics, the expectation seems to be more in the mid-4s. He’s a pretty standard pitcher with the exception being that he generally throws strikes and keeps his walks down.
Statcast is really down on him. Again, the only good thing is keeping walks at bay.
As far as pitching, Quantrill will throw the kitchen sink at you. It sort of seems like because none of the pitches are actually any good.
