Former MLB star David Justice might be known to most sports fans today as the veteran player in “Moneyball,” but to many in the pop culture world, he’s the guy who divorced Halle Berry.
Justice, 59, was married to Berry from 1993-97. Berry, the Hollywood star known for her roles in movies like “James Bond” and “Monster’s Ball,” was Justice’s first wife. He married his current wife, Rebecca Villalobos, in 2001. Justice, the National League Rookie of the Year in 1990 and a three-time MLB All-Star, recently opened up about why he divorced Berry.

Justice said that, essentially, he divorced Berry because he couldn’t see her as the mother of his future children.
The former MLB star appeared on Thursday’s edition of the “All the Smoke” podcast. He opened up about his divorce. Berry filed for divorce in April 1996, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Justice filed his own papers two weeks later.
“Because I was young and I had only, honestly, been in one relationship before her, my knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast,” he said.
“So, I’m looking at my mom and I’m a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean. Then I’m thinking, ‘OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?’”
Justice said that Berry didn’t come across as motherly to him.
“At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues,” Justice added. “I’ll say this, we never had any issues about any women, other men.”
Justice now has three children with his current wife. He is married to businesswoman Rebecca Villalobos.
Berry, meanwhile, has been married twice since getting divorced from Justice, though those marriages ended in divorce, too.
