Honestly, I’ve been wondering if I was cursed. I feel like I just sit here and write another “Braves lose [in X embarrassing way]” each Sunday, and there’s a question about whether Demetrius did this to me for a reason. But I wasn’t exactly sure, so I looked up the Atlanta Braves on each day of the week before this game.

Okay, so I’m at least not imagining things. But today was not that day!

The scoring got started in embarrassing fashion. After two quick outs to start the top of the second, Derek Hill ripped a double to left field. Liam Hicks singled to right, and Eli White made an ill-advised throw home (first mistake) that ended up fairly significantly up the first base line. Sean Murphy then made another ill-advised throw (second mistake) to second to try to get Hicks trying for second, and it ended up also errant (third mistake), which allowed Hicks to get to third. Hicks didn’t score, so the embarrassing part didn’t matter that much. But yeesh.

In the bottom of the fourth, Atlanta finally got to Cal Quantrill, who Miami only allowed to go four innings for whatever reason (the broadcast mentioned that it’s just how the Marlins treat Quantrill). Matt Olson smoked a home run to deep right-center to square the game at 1.

An inning later, it was Miami’s turn to embarrass itself. Nacho Alvarez got hit by a pitch (first mistake), and Jurickson Profar followed with a double off of Tyler Phillips, who came in to replace Quantrill. Phillips then walked Olson (second mistake) and Marcell Ozuna (third mistake) before uncorking a wild pitch (fourth mistake) that the catcher probably should have tried to block a different way (fifth mistake?) that brought home the third run, making it 3-1.

Joey Wentz got into the 6th before getting pulled for Daysbel Hernandez. Wentz did okay, but he wasn’t anything special. Unable to miss many bats, he went 5.1 innings with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts, but he was able to limit any damage. Walking Dane Myers got him pulled, and Hernandez was able to get two flyouts to end the inning.

Atlanta got more in the bottom of the 7th. Profar and Olson got some dinky base hits to left before Marcell Ozuna came up. Ozuna has been hot lately. Ozuna continues to be hot, scorching a three-run shot to left field to put the game officially out of reach (I really shouldn’t have said it when I did at the time, but I NEVER GET TO SAY THINGS LIKE THIS ON SUNDAY). Michael Harris decided to put it further in doubt by hitting the back-end of a back-to-back. Just pointing out that I mentioned acquiring both of these guys in fantasy, but I’ll move since no one cares. Braves, 7-1.

Not a lot happened after that as Dylan Lee, Pierce Johnson, and Tyler Kinley finished off a rather uneventful end of the game.

Atlanta gets tomorrow off before heading to New York to face off against the Mets.
