KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KOAM) — Wyandotte Co. Kan. Deputy Elijah Ming was killed in the line of duty in KCK. He is being laid to rest today.

He played baseball, and was Homecoming King at Fort Scott Community College.

The 11 a.m. funeral held at Children’s Mercy Park. Independence Community Awareness shared KC Scout camera footage early Monday morning.

Immediately following the service, there will be a law enforcement processional.

It was July 26 Deputy Ming was shot during a standoff at a KCK home. Shawn Harris, 38, is now charged Capital Murder and Felon in Poss. of a Firearm in the crime.

Governor Laura Kelly directed flags be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities from sunup to sundown on August 11, 2025, in honor of Deputy Ming.

“The death of a law enforcement officer is always a tragedy, and Deputy Ming was taken far too soon,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “He made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community, and he will not be forgotten. My sincere condolences go out to Deputy Ming’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
