Jorbit Vivas is back in the Bronx and maybe this time he’ll actually be in the big leagues.
On Friday, the New York Yankees recalled the 24-year-old infielder to replace Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the roster. As Chisholm headed to the injured list with a strained oblique, Vivas hopes the third time would be the charm for him.

This is Vivas’ second call-up this season and third overall. Yet, despite getting the call that every minor league player dreams of, Vivas has yet to make his major league debut.
His previous stints with the big league club ended without an appearance, leaving him still in search of that first time in a big league lineup.
Vivas has certainly earned the call-up.

At Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he’s hitting .319 with a .426 on-base percentage, two home runs, 15 RBIs, and six stolen bases over 26 games this season. His disciplined approach at the plate and versatility in the infield have kept him on the Yankees’ radar.

This latest promotion could be a longer one. With an oblique strain like Chisholm has, the timeline tends to be a couple of weeks or months. While it’s uncertain if Vivas will see playing time during this stint, the current infield situation could provide him with the opportunity to make his major league debut finally. Infielders Oswald Peraza and Pablo Reyes are currently on the bench and neither has run away with their opportunities.
With DJ LeMahieu’s latest setback, Vivas probably has a week to prove himself. When LeMahieu is ready to come back, the Yankees will have to decide between Peraza, Reyes and Vivas.
Each call-up brings hope and excitement, but for Vivas, it’s been a bit frustrating. The Yankees’ infield needs may finally align with Vivas’s readiness, potentially ending his wait.
