It is currently a topic of discussion whether the New York Yankees will actually be involved in the 2025 MLB playoffs or not. They currently hold the last Wild Card spot after losing the seven-game AL East lead they once held at the end of May.

Optimism might be dwindling, but hey, sometimes you just need to be invited to the dance to have a chance to steal the show. The 2000 World Series champion Yankees are celebrating their 25th anniversary this season and they ended the regular season on a horrific 3-15 note before going on a run to win it all. The 2006 Cardinals were crowned champions despite a pedestrian 83-78 regular season record. And since the Wild Card Series was officially introduced in 2022, three of the past six pennant winners had to fight through that first round without a bye: the last-seeded ‘22 Phillies and ‘23 Diamondbacks, and the fifth-seeded ‘23 Rangers (who took home the title).

Hope springs eternal, right? It may be the classic fool’s hope that Gandalf spoke of to Pippin, but that’s where we are.

Anyway, the MLB postseason schedule has been officially released. You can read the full details in the link, including all of the relevant National League dates, but we’ll focus on those that could relate to a possible Yankees return to the Fall Classic. First-pitch times and locations will be released once teams are finalized.
