Fresh off a hot homestand and bringing with them a seven game winning streak, the Mariners are ready to begin a nine-game east coast road trip. First up on the docket is a three game set against the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore, despite their consistently average performance for the past decade or so is having a rough time in 2025. In the basement of the AL East, Baltimore is 15.5 games behind Toronto and well behind where they expected to be with the likes of Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, and Adley Rutschman in their lineup. Here’s hoping the Mariners can take advantage of the Orioles’ slump.
With the Mariners reshuffling their starting rotation for the road trip, George Kirby will get today’s start. The Kirbster hasn’t been his typically dominant self in 2025, with his delayed start from spring training. But he still his George Kirby at heart, and is likely to be aggressive against this scuffling Baltimore lineup. This will be his 8th career start against the Orioles, with only shortstop Gunnar Henderson having shown consistent success against him (6×13, 1 HR).
Backing him up with be the Mariners killer lineup (that’s such a strange thing to say) which has been dominant so far in the month of August. Cal Raleigh’s 2025 has been unprecedented, but not to be missed are Josh Naylor – who exploded into Seattle by hitting 4 home runs in his first 15 games with the Mariners (15×52) – and Randy Arozarena who has quietly put up the most rWAR (4.0) among all major league left fielders. Oh and Julio is hitting for a 182 wRC+ since July 11. It’s safe to say the Mariners lineup is clicking right now.
And tonight they’ll be facing Dean Kremer whose best weapon his is splitter, especially against lefties. He has an average fastball and a sinker as well, but only tops out around 94 mph on his heaters. He also allows a large number of home runs, goof for a 4.03 FIP. We’ll see if Julio can overcome the ridiculous (and funny) wall in left field.
