(WLUK) — For the second time this season, the Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from their 12th consecutive victory.
That means the team is also only one win away from fulfilling George Webb’s prophecy and triggering his namesake restaurant to give away free hamburgers.
George Webb restaurants have provided free hamburgers each time the Brewers have won a dozen straight games. It’s happened twice before — first in 1987 and then in 2018.
Late last month, the Brewers failed to capture the all-important 12th victory, meaning no hamburger giveaway commenced. But now, they have another chance, as they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday afternoon.
George Webb is a Milwaukee-based diner chain whose sole location in Northeast Wisconsin in Peshtigo.
FOX 11 spoke with the manager of that restaurant, Cassandra Hollar, last month when the Brewers were on the cusp of their 12th victory for the first time this season. She said she was hopeful the Brewers could trigger the third hamburger giveaway in team history.
“It brings in people and shows the community how we can all work as a team to make things happen,” she said.
