Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton takes fly balls in right field

Giancarlo Stanton takes fly balls in right field before a game at Yankee Stadium, Aug. 8, 2025.

The Yankees (64-56, third in AL East) only have five more games on Amazon Prime Video this season as they get ready to host the Twins (56-63, fourth in AL Central) in the series finale on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

For the first time since July 28-31 versus the Rays, the Yankees have won a series following a 9-1 win over Minnesota on Tuesday night. The offense got going early again, with Aaron Judge, Anthony Volpe and Giancarlo Stanton all hitting home runs by the fifth inning to give the Yankees a comfortable 5-1 lead. After having more walks than strikeouts last time out, starter Carlos Rodon was back in a groove las night, as he pitched seven strong innings of one hit ball and only surrendered one run, the first time he’s done that since the All-Star Break.

With a win on Wednesday evening, the Yankees would complete a sweep for the first time since July 8-10 versus the Mariners.

The Bronx Bombers got this series started in tremendous fashion. With starting pitching rarely going past the five inning mark recently, Will Warren pitched 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just two runs while the offense hit four solo home runs, coming from Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm Jr in a 6-2 victory.

Monday’s win marked the first time the Bronx Bombers had won the first game of the series in the second half, with the last win in a series opener coming in the final series before the All-Star Break versus the Chicago Cubs on July 11.

Yankees vs Twins pitching probables

On the bump for the Yankees will be Cam Schlittler (1-2, 4.38 ERA). The 6-foot-6, 24-year-old right-hander makes the sixth start of his career as he continues his rookie season. It was more of the same from Schlittler last time out, as he had another outing of five innings pitched, allowing two or fewer runs, but tied a season-low with only three strikeouts in a no-decision effort versus the Astros last Friday night in the Bronx.

Sellers at the deadline, one of the more surprising names that didn’t get moved in the Twins fire sale last month was Joe Ryan. Minnesota’s ace has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, as Ryan is tied for the fifth most wins (11), ninth in ERA (2.79) and sports the second lowest WHIP (0.92) in MLB, trailing only American League Cy Young favorite in Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal in that category (0.86).
