Season series: Guardians lead 1-0

The Guardians opened the interleague series Tuesday night with a 4-3 win over the Marlins as favorites (-130) with the Under (8.5) cashing.

Cleveland 3B Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of solo homers. As a result, Ramirez became the franchise’s multi-HR leader. He has 27 games with at least 2 homers in his 13-year career, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Jim Thome and Albert Belle for the franchise lead. He snapped an 0-for-12 slide with the huge night. DH Kyle Manzardo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer, his 21st of the season.

Miami’s DH Heriberto Hernandez had the team’s only extra-base hit, a double, and he finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. RF Dane Myers had the only other RBI for the visitors, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk, run and RBI.

Cleveland has won 6 of the past 7 games, while the Under is 4-2 in the past 6 outings. The Guardians are 22-8 in the past 30 games since July 7, slicing the lead of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central to 5 1/2 games.

Guardians 3, Marlins 2

The GUARDIANS (-125) are worth a look in the second installment of this 3-game set.

Williams comes in with a lot of steam after a near complete game last time out, falling just 1 out short of a 1-hitter against the Mets, another NL East team.

And Perez had been humming along, but he was treated rudely by the Braves in his most recent outing. Prior to both pitcher’s start, Miami might have looked like a better play, but Cleveland is rolling along, and it is a strong play to stay hot.

The Marlins +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, if you need some insurance, and you just can’t bet Miami on the run line.

The Marlins nearly got the job done Tuesday, coming up just short. But, it is still just 1-3 in the past 4 games on the run line as an underdog.

AVOID.

UNDER 8 (-120) might be the best play on the board.

On the surface, a matchup of Perez and Williams doesn’t scream pitcher’s duel. But, the Under is 3-1 in the past 4 starts by Perez, while the Under has cashed in each of the past 3 starts by Williams, and the total has gone low in 4 of the past 6 games for the Guardians.
