After the season’s longest road trip, where the games had a little bit of everything from being shut out to scoring six runs in the ninth for a comeback win, the Dodgers are finally back home at Chavez Ravine.
First on the schedule is a three-game set with the formerly Oakland, currently Sacramento, future Las Vegas A’s. The team without a permanent home presently sit at 21-20, second place in the AL West and only a game out of first place. (I was really surprised to see them in second place – the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are both 0.5 games behind but good for the A’s!)
Still, the Dodgers aren’t looking to help the A’s in their pursuit of a better record.
The series starts out with the matchup of left hander Jeffery Springs going against Landon Knack. Spring’s last two outings have been very good, holding the Seattle Mariners scoreless over 5.0 innings and only allowing two runs in 6.0 innings to the Texas Rangers in the game before that.
Knack last pitched May 7th in Miami, going 5.0 scoreless.
The Dodgers pitching staff as a whole hope to contain Jacob Wilson. The 23-year-old who is in his first full season in the majors, is slashing .348/465/.842 so far on the season, and he’s having an elite rookie season.
Jacob Wilson needed 36 games to hit 40 singles and drive in 20 runs this season.
It’s the fewest games any American League rookie has needed to reach each of those marks in a season since RBI were first tracked in 1920. pic.twitter.com/O3jvborGll

Mason Miller, who took the baseball world by storm last season, isn’t doing as well so far this season. The flamethrower has allowed eight earned runs over his last 7.1 innings of work.
For their part, the Dodgers hope to maintain the hot bats – those of them that are hot, at least. Freddie Freeman was just named Player of the Week. Shohei Ohtani had 11 RBI on the road trip. Mookie Bett’s bat is starting to heat back up. As Eric Stephen said on his Three Inning Save Podcast, “With those three guys at the top, it really lets you sweep a lot under the rug”.
The bottom of the order with Max Muncy, Michael Conforto, Chris Taylor, James Outman and Austin Barnes (when playing) still are not starting to lift their weight.
Tommy Edman is now eligible to return from the injured list, but as he was still having some soreness, his return is likelier closer to the weekend. Teoscar Hernandez hopes to start taking at bats on Tuesday, so his return is still a bit away.
A day of rest and being at home and the looming return of some starters from the IL will hopefully finally propel those cold bats into warmer waters, or they could see their time with the team very limited.
