Brewers closer Trevor Megill on his addition to the all-star team

Brewers closer Trevor Megill was a late addition to the National League all-star team, his first such selection

Trevor Megill wasn’t joking about getting shirts.

A few weeks ago, the Milwaukee Brewers closer told USA TODAY in a story during the team’s rise to the top of the National League and soon all of baseball that they would start wearing ‘Power of Friendship’ T-Shirts.

That way, Megill said “people can start recognizing who we are. I mean, people were freaking out last year when we won 93 games. Maybe they didn’t think we could do it again.”

Well, the Brewers are, in fact, doing it again and then some. They are the talk of the town and the baseball world as they’re making history along the way with all the winning since late May. They are on pace for over 100 wins, which would easily be the best in team history.

And this week the never-can-lose Brewers became the second National League team in MLB history and first in 90 years to have two separate 11-game winning streaks in one season.

The Brewers (76-44), who lead the Chicago Cubs by eight games in the NL Central and have seven more wins than the next best teams in the NL, are currently in the midst of a 12-game winning streak with a chance to tie the franchise record of 13 straight victories set in 1987 on Friday, Aug. 15, in Cincinnati.

How have they done it?

Megill’s explanation: “Power of friendship, man.”

And he indeed has the merch to make it official.

Athlete Logos company selling Milwaukee Brewers-themed Power of Friendship shirts

Megill appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday, Aug. 14, and was sporting a “Power of Friendship” T-shirt.

Brewers fans can get in on the “Power of Friendship” as well. The shirts are being sold through Athlete Logos, at Athletelogos.com, a New York-based company founded by graphic designer Dan Abrams.

In addition to Power of Friendship T-shirts, the company is selling sweatshirts, hats, mugs, tumblers and tote bags.

Pancake-themed shirts, which Pat Murphy will likely get his hands on, are also for sale. Shirts and hats cost $29.99 and sweatshirts are going for $45.

Proceeds from Athlete Logos’ sale of Power of Friendship merchandise to help Milwaukee flood victims

Megill said on the show that proceeds of the merchandise will go toward Milwaukee flood victims.

“Good chunk is going to go to a good cause in Milwaukee,” the All-Star closer said.

Milwaukee and communities all across southeast Wisconsin were hit with record-setting rainfall Aug. 9-10 that resulted in flash floods, severely damaged homes, businesses, parks, libraries and more.

Abrams told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he plans on finding “something that can help people affected.”

“It will be 15% of the profits for the life of any products that have the design,” Abrams said. “Hopefully (the Brewers) go on an extended run and this can do some good for a long time.”

Athlete Logos has history with Trevor Megill and his family

Abrams said he came up with the design for the merchandise after Trevor’s mom, Julie, suggested it to him.

Abrams, who began selling his products 10 years ago before launching Athlete Logos five years ago, has worked with Trevor’s brother, Tylor, a pitcher for the New York Mets, in the past.

“I was happy to design the shirts,” said Abrams, a Mets fan, though he’s also cheering on the Brewers and his new friends from afar. He also designed former Brewers closer Devin Williams’ personalized logo.

Players, along with manager Pat Murphy, have already worn the shirts during the most recent homestand, one in which the Brewers swept two teams and went 6-0.

What is the Brewers’ Power of Friendship?

The Brewers have many nicknames this year.

They are the Average Joe’s, though they’re certainly far from average this year, and Woodpeckers, names created by manager Pat Murphy. They’re also now the Burger Boys after winning 12 consecutive games to launch the longstanding George Webb promotion. And then there’s the “Power of Friendship.”

Megill first brought up the phrase when speaking to USA TODAY’s Gabe Lacques for a story that published July 18.

“The way the Brewers run themselves and the research they do on people, personalities — that goes into a lot of what we’re seeing right now,” Megill said. “Power of friendship, right? We’ve got a college-minded coach at the helm and I think a lot of our guys are just that gritty, tough, and we go and get after it. I think that’s our biggest strength: A lot of guys that like each other and a lot of guys willing to put their body on the line every night.”

Megill took over as the Brewers closer in 2025 after Williams was traded to the New York Yankees in the offseason.

It was a familiar role for Megill, who had closing duties when Williams was sidelined with an injury for the first half of the 2024 season.

Milwaukee Brewers All-Stars: Trevor Megill first time

Megill was one of three Brewers pitchers selected to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. Starters Freddy Peralta and Jacob Misiorowski were the others.

Megill, along with starter Misiorowski, pitched in the All-Star Game last month in Atlanta for the National League-winning team. In the only batter he faced with two down in the top of the seventh, Megill got Cleveland Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan to ground out to earn a hold.
