Is Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal window an ‘illusion’ with Scott Harris?

On “Days of Roar,” Evan Petzold and Scott Bentley discuss what Scott Harris said about the Detroit Tigers’ timeline to win with ace Tarik Skubal.

CHICAGO — The Detroit Tigers have been impacted by rain for the second day in a row.

The Tigers and White Sox entered a rain delay Tuesday, Aug. 12, before the start of the second of three games in the series at Rate Field. The game eventually started at 8:30 p.m. ET, following a 50-minute delay.

First pitch was initially set for 7:40 p.m. ET.

“It’s spotty,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said before Tuesday’s rain delay. “I think we’re going to play. It’s a matter of when this next cell hits us. There’s been some downpours in the last 24 hours. The path to our dugout was full last night within five minutes after the game. It’s supposed to be clear enough for us to get the game in, but not clear enough for us to take batting practice.”

For the Tigers, right-hander Jack Flaherty started Tuesday’s game in search of a bounce-back performance. Meanwhile, the White Sox sent right-hander Yoendrys Gómez to the mound.

The rain delay before Tuesday’s game occurred less than 24 hours after a 63-minute rain delay in the ninth inning Monday, Aug. 11. The Tigers won 2-1 in Monday’s series opener, thanks to Spencer Torkelson‘s go-ahead home run in the ninth.

After Tuesday’s game, the Tigers and White Sox will play at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the series finale.

For Wednesday’s game, the Tigers are expected to deploy a bullpen-only game, with the option to use right-hander Troy Melton and left-hander Brant Hurter as bulk relievers.

“We’ll see who and how many guys we use if Jack pitches deep into the game,” Hinch said. “We have either Hurter or Melton available. Those guys can both go to the middle part of the game tomorrow. If not, or if we choose to go a different route, we can pull somebody up from the minor leagues.”
