KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Royals-themed children’s book will come to area schools and libraries soon.
The story of “Franklin’s Winning Season”, a 32-page original fiction book based in Kansas City, will be launched soon as part of a partnership between the Kansas City Royals and QuikTrip.
The partnership aims to improve youth literacy across the Kansas City metro.
“Our motivation is to help local kids find fresh and new ways to love reading,” said Amy Gale, Senior Director, Community Impact & Executive Director, The Kansas City Royals Foundation. “This is about two organizations with deep roots in Kansas City partnering with two local creators to help literally thousands of local kids open their imaginations to new worlds.”
Copies of the book will be donated to schools, libraries and community groups through the Hit the Books program, which was established in 2024 to provide 10 books to local schools for every Royals hit.
A pair of locals helped create the book, with Margaree King Mitchell writing it and Tad Carpenter illustrating it.
The book will be available both as a hardcover or paperback format. It will also be narrated as an audiobook by Royals broadcaster Jake Eisenberg.
On Saturday, the first 5,000 fans ages 14 and under will receive a copy of the book at the Royals and White Sox game, which is also Teacher’s Night at Kauffman Stadium.
Teachers and schools can request free books for their classrooms by visiting here.
