Former LSU baseball star Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes’ odds to win the National League’s Cy Young award shifted in his favor over the last week.

Skenes has -300 odds to take home the annual award, per BetMGM. He holds a steady lead over the Philadelphia Phillies‘ duo of Cristopher Sanchez (+450) and Zack Wheeler (+600)

Skenes’ 2.13 ERA ranks first in the National League. His 0.96 WHIP is second and his 166 strikeouts are fourth. The right-hander has thrown 148 innings in 2025, following up his rookie of the year campaign from 2024.

For the second-straight year, Skenes made the start on the mound for the National eagle in the All-Star game. He remains one of the best pitchers in baseball over halfway through his second season as a professional.

After leading LSU to the national championship, Skenes was selected at first overall by the Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft.
