EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Brewers broke their franchise record for single-season winning streak, winning their 14th-straight against the Reds.
After a dramatic 10-8 comeback win on Friday night, where Milwaukee rallied from down 8-1, Saturday’s contest brought a different type of fireworks.
The Brewers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 9th on a Sal Frelick fielder’s choice with a throwing error to first, before taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th.
The Reds were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom half, but with two runners on, Andruw Monasterio crushed a pinch-hit three-run home run that ended up being the difference. The Brewers won the game 6-5 in 11 innings.
“I’m grateful to be part of it. You know, I’m small part of it, but I’m grateful,“ Brewers manager Pat Murphy said.
”That’s the group we have, you know, a bunch of hungry, hungry guys, and that’s that’s all I can keep saying because, you know, it’s what it is: Guys that come and want to win, and want to play, and there’s a lot of cliffhangers. A lot of guys that are hanging on to the big leagues. It’s undaunted, you know? I mean, they just keep coming.”
The Brewers will go for their 15th straight win and series sweep against Cincinnati on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12:40 pm.
