CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The Cincinnati Reds’ starting rotation takes a hit.
Chase Burns is on the 15-day IL with what the team says is a grade 1 right flexor strain. The IL stint is retroactive to Aug. 12, according to the Reds. Cincinnati called up left-hander Joe La Sorsa from AAA-Louisville.
Burns landing on the IL comes two days after Hunter Greene made his return to the starting rotation.
The Reds ace pitched six shutout innings in his return to help Cincinnati get the win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Reds (64-58) are in a crucial stretch of the season as they vie for a playoff spot.
Winners in six of their last 10, Cincinnati finds itself a half-game back of the reeling New York Mets for the final National League Wild Card spot.
There are 40 games left for the Reds with a pivotal series on deck this weekend.
The streaking Milwaukee Brewers (76-44) bring their 12-game streak to Great American Ball Park to take on the Reds.
Nick Martinez will be on the bump for Cincinnati.
