Luis Guevara, a former Delmarva Shorebirds baseball player, has died, the Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday night.
Guevara, a 19-year old, was involved in a personal watercraft crash in Sarasota, Florida on Sunday, according to multiple outlets. According to the Fox 13 local news outlet in Tampa Bay, there was a head-on crash between two jet skis with two people on each that hospitalized two people.
“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” Mike Elias, Orioles Executive Vice President and General Manager, said in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time,”
Guevara was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent out of Tinaco, Venezuela, in January of 2023. This season was his first season in the United States, and he appeared in 24 games for the Delmarva Shorebirds during his time in Salisbury. He also played two games with the Orioles Double-A affiliate the Chesapeake Baysox, and four with the FCL Orioles.
