The Utica Association dropped its regular-season finale to McFarland 7-2 in a Home Talent Sunday League game on July 27 at Utica Field.

Even with the loss, the A’s (9-5, 6-2 Southeast South) earned a spot in the Southeast Section playoffs as a wild card. Utica will head on the road to take on Southeast South Division winner Evansville (10-4) in a section semifinal on Aug. 3.

Saxton Shore

Utica tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but McFarland responded with five runs in the top of the ninth. The Muskies committed three errors, but outhit the A’s 13-7.

Brock Wanninger

Ethan Yahn led Utica with two hits and a run. Owen Ernest finished one hit and a run. Ryan Ellingson started on the mound for the A’s, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 5 ⅓ innings. Ellingson struck out five and issued no walks.
