Cleveland rolls into this matchup licking its wounds after being swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. The Guardians managed just five runs in that three-game skid while giving up 17, a setback that pushed them 3.5 games off the pace for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.
Arizona hasn’t exactly been cruising either. The D-backs wrapped up a 3-4 road trip, starting on a high note by taking two of three from the Rangers but stumbling in a four-game set against the struggling Colorado Rockies, the worst team in the majors this year.

Geraldo Perdomo has quietly been a spark plug, pacing the club with 80 RBIs. While he doesn’t rank high in the home run charts, his knack for timely hitting keeps him near the top of Arizona’s run production. He comes in on a three-game hitting streak, batting .300 with a triple and four walks over his last five contests. Corbin Carroll has been the real power source, slugging 27 long balls, good for 11th in MLB, while Marte continues to set the tone at the plate with a team-best .295 average. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is also heating up, riding a five-game hitting streak in which he’s posted a .300 average with a pair of homers and seven RBIs.
On the hill, veteran lefty Eduardo Rodriguez gets the nod for the D-backs. Rodriguez (5-7, 5.40 ERA) has had his share of ups and downs this season but has steadied a bit in August, going 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA across three starts.

Cleveland, meanwhile, will lean on its star Jose Ramirez, who leads the way with 25 home runs and a .290 batting average, ranking among the top 20 in MLB in homers. Steven Kwan continues to showcase his consistency with a .280 clip, while Manzardo brings some thump to the lineup with 21 home runs already under his belt. Carlos Santana adds veteran patience at the plate, drawing 52 walks this year.
The Guardians will counter with Tanner Bibee on the mound. The 26-year-old right-hander sits at 9-9 with a 4.54 ERA in 24 starts. Bibee has had a rough go of it lately, surrendering four or more runs in seven of his last eight outings, and will be looking for a bounce-back performance under the desert lights.
