CHICAGO – The red-hot Milwaukee Brewers continue to roll through the league, beating the Chicago Cubs 7-0 in the series opener on Monday.
With the Crew enjoying a record-breaking season, is it time to consider a nickname for the team? (i.e. Harvey’s Wallbangers, Bambi’s Bombers, etc.)
WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News suggested some nickname ideas to manager Pat Murphy during his regular Tuesday appearance on Brewers 360.
Murphy’s Marauders?
“No.”
Pat’s Punishers?
“No.”
MKE Murphy’s
“No.”
Murphy’s Misfits?
“Anything with my name in it I’m not going with,” the manager admitted.
What about U-Crew? In honor of the late Bob Uecker?
“That’s not bad,” he said. “I like that.”
The Brewers will honor Mr. Baseball with a special ceremony before Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants. Murphy will play a “very limited” role, he said.
“What an honor to be a part of it,” the skipper gushed. “Uecker has helped us in so many ways. It’s a real thing. We all miss him.”
20-game winner?
Winning his 15th game on Monday, starting pitcher Freddy Peralta could become become the franchise’s first 20-game winner since 1986 (Teddy Higuera).
“(Peralta) is capable, especially the way he’s throwing the ball. Anything is possible,” Murphy said. “Wins (for a starting pitcher) are tougher than ever.”
Murphy cited the team’s “murderous” upcoming schedule which includes games against the Blue Jays, Padres, Phillies, Red, and Giants.
“Whether Peralta gets (to 20 wins) doesn’t diminish his season. He’s been magnificent.”
