It was a week to remember for former Iowa baseball star pitcher Ty Langenberg.

Langenberg was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s slowly been working his way up through their minor league system, now playing for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Twins’ High-A affiliate. It’s a great location for Langenberg, who’s not far from Iowa City and gets to pitch in front of plenty of Hawkeye fans.

And his latest performance on the mound was nothing short of incredible.

Langenberg went seven innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out seven batters last Wednesday against the Quad City River Bandits. That pitching performance was enough to earn him Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Overall, in this season with the Kernels, Langenberg has started 18 games, posting a 4-5 record with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He has 85 strikeouts to just 42 walks, a solid 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio. And with the Twins organization seemingly looking to go in a younger direction with their roster, Langenberg could see a promotion to Double-A before too much longer.

This was a great performance from Langenberg and hopefully one he can build on going forward. Iowa fans will be rooting for the former Hawkeye to rocket through the system and hopefully pitch with the big league club at some point soon.
