The Texas Rangers announced Monday that they have signed RHP Patrick Murphy to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.
The 29-year-old pitcher last appeared in the majors in 2022 and spent the 2024 season in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League, where he compiled a 3.26 ERA with 30 strikeouts and a 1.19 WHIP in 40 appearances for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.

The 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher was originially drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2013 MLB draft and has made 35 relief appearances in the MLB. From 2020-2022 with the Blue Jays and Nationals, he had a 4.76 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and 38 strikeouts.
Rangers
Murphy spent the 2023 season in the Twins’ minor league system, where he had a 3.69 ERA and 4.40 FIP in 42 appearances at the Triple-A level. After not being called up to the big leagues, he went overseas to the NPB on a one-year deal with a team option for 2025.
Murphy should provide Texas some organizational bullpen depth and will be another option for the Rangers to look at in spring training.
