It wasn’t a good start to the road trip for the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Despite being in similar boats success-wise this season, the Pittsburgh Pirates showed off their quality young pitching that limited the Rockies to just three hits while their typically anemic offense clobbered Colorado pitching. Looking for better fortune, the Rockies will have to hope to get some length out of their starter and get the offense rolling.

Kyle Freeland (3-12, 5.16 ERA) has been off and on all season while also battling a recurring blister on his pitching hand. The blister cut his last outing short, but it was a solid go on the mound as he allowed two runs on six hits over four innings of work with five strikeouts against one walk. The hope is that the blister won’t be much of an issue and Freeland can replicate some of the success he had in his last road start against the St. Louis Cardinals, when he threw 7 1/3 shutout innings.

The Pirates counter with Mike Burrows (1-4, 4.46 ERA). The 2018 11th round pick has beem a staple for the Pirates since being recalled near the end of May. His last outing came against the Chicago Cubs, in which he allowed one run on five hits over five innings of work. He can get a little wild on the mound, but he has some nice secondary pitches that can help net strikeouts when he’s on and fooling hitters. After the showing the Rockies put up yesterday at the plate, he may be feeling confident coming into this game and take advantage of an over-eager offense looking to get something going.
