Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across Major League Baseball. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in New York Yankees fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
The Yankees did a lot of work attempting to revamp their bullpen midseason after far too many blown leads in the first several months of 2025 (particularly from now-former closer Devin Williams). The results have been mixed at best from the new additions, as Jake Bird got quickly demoted to Triple-A and Camilo Doval has yet to find his stride.
Two-time All-Star David Bednar has done his part since coming over from Pittsburgh, and though there have been a couple bumps, he has provided more confidence in the ninth inning than Williams as the de facto closer — a low bar, but a bar nonetheless. He’s held the other side scoreless in seven of his nine appearances, notching three saves. 2024 playoff closer Luke Weaver has also done a nice job in multiple roles for much of 2025, albeit while enduring his own stretch of injury and ineffectiveness as well. He is now effectively Bednar’s setup man, and the Yankees’ Sunday Night Baseball win was a fine display of his talents, fanning three while recording four outs en rout to a 7-2 Yankees triumph.
So for this week’s Reacts poll, we want to know who you trust most in that turbulent Yankees’ pen: Bednar or Weaver? We’ve also included a third option of “neither,” if you still don’t feel all that comfortable in anyone. Vote in the poll and we’ll check out the results later this week.
