BALTIMORE — Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu is eligible to be activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, but his return will likely be delayed until next week
“He’s doing OK, progressing,” manager Alex Cora said Monday before Boston’s game against the Orioles. “But I don’t know if it’s going to be this week. We’ll see. Hopefully there’s a jump in the upcoming days. But (head athletic trainer) Brandon (Henry) feels like it’s going to be during the homestand but not this week.”
Abreu is here in Baltimore with the team and was scheduled to run Monday. The Red Sox have four games here Monday-Thursday.
The homestand begins Friday with three games against the Pirates Friday-Sunday, then three games against the Guardians Monday-Wednesday.
Abreu is batting .253 with a .325 on-base percentage, .486 slugging percentage, .811 OPS, 22 homers, 16 doubles and 69 RBIs in 108 games (395 plate appearances). He leads the team in home runs and ranks fifth in fWAR (2.7).
The 2024 Gold Glover winner has 13 defensive runs saved in 804 ⅓ innings.
