Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is headed for the injured list with a rotator cuff strain, Texas Rangers president Chris Young announced today, per the beats. The injury almost certain will end Eovaldi’s season.
This is extremely disappointing news. The Rangers, barely on the fringes of the playoff hunt, are now without their best starting pitcher this season. Eovaldi has a 1.73 ERA, which would lead the majors in that category, and while he is just shy currently of the number of innings necessary to qualify for the ERA title, had he continued to make his scheduled starts, he would have most likely reached the 162 inning threshold necessary to qualify.
Eovaldi joins Marcus Semien, Evan Carter and Jon Gray as Rangers who have likely seen their season ended in the last week or so. In Eovaldi’s absence, the Rangers will have to decide whether to bring back Kumar Rocker from AAA, where he hasn’t pitched since August 7 due to him working on the side on his delivery, or go with someone like Jacob Latz or Caleb Boushley.
2025 ain’t our year, man.
